The Global Sports Initiative Fellowship Program

Campus2The Weatherhead Global Sports Initiative Fellowship program invites applications from current and former athletes and individuals in the sports industry for a competitive one-year fellowship to engage with Harvard faculty and students to conduct an individual research project on global issues. Providing access to Harvard's world class research facilities, the Initiative will look to accept fellows who will develop projects related to compelling social, historical, and political issues that wiill help them expand their platforms.

Who Is Eligible

  • Current and Former Athletes.
  • Sports Management Professionals.

We will consider applications from athletes at all levels and from all sports. Management from all sports will be considered as well.

Terms

TermsFellows must spend a minimum of one week and a concluding visit in residence.

Other meetings and sessions with an assigned advisor and other faculty will be conducted on Zoom. Sessions will commence in the Fall, Spring and Summer.

The standard program administrative fee is $15,000 for practitioners.  Participants are expected to secure their own funding.

Fellows are required to follow Harvard's Covid-19 protocols, which are updated frequently.

How to Apply

ApplicationAll applicants must submit the following documents:

  1. Cover letter providing background information on the applicant (sports affiliation, educational background, etc.)
  2. A one-page description of the research project
  3. Two letters of recommendation

Deadline

ClockWe offer three deadlines per year:

December 1st, 2023 for the Spring 2022 Semester
April 1st, 2024 for the Summer 2024 Term
July 1st, 2024 for the Fall 2024 Semester
